The official gazette, from paper to digital

Four steps to keep the law accessible to all

What member institutions share within the network, and what the forum moves forward at each edition.

  1. 01

    Preserve

Century-old registers, sometimes the only copies: the legal memory of states, to be safeguarded before it fades away.

  2. 02

    Publish

A law only exists once it is published in the official gazette: publication is what makes it binding on all.

  3. 03

    Digitise

Digitising collections, structuring metadata and harmonising formats from one state to another.

  4. 04

    Disseminate

Electronic official gazettes, freely accessible, searchable and open to reuse.

What we do

Four permanent work streams

The network works between forums: its members exchange methods, publish joint recommendations and support states that are digitising their official gazette.

Access to law

Making the law in force freely accessible in every country, without technical or financial barriers.

Browse the official gazettes

Standardisation

Harmonising publication formats, metadata and citation rules so that texts are interoperable from one state to another.

Charters and recommendations

Legal memory

Digitising and preserving official archives: a state’s sovereignty also depends on control over its legal memory.

Work and reports

Cooperation

Sharing expertise and tools among member institutions, and supporting states committed to digitising their official gazette.

How we work

Governance

An annual assembly, a secretariat that ensures continuity, and a host country that welcomes each edition.

The Forum

The assembly of member institutions. It meets once a year, adopts the strategic direction and welcomes new members.

The Secretariat

Ensures continuity between editions: coordination of work, relations with partners and management of the platform.

The host country

Hosts the annual edition and organises it, in liaison with the Secretariat.

Membership

Does your institution publish an official gazette?

Join the network: access to joint work, participation in the annual forum, support for digitisation and listing of your official gazette on the platform. Membership is free for public institutions.

The « Héritage » exhibition

From the Sultanate of Ifat to the Republic of Djibouti

Presented at the first edition of the forum, the exhibition traces the legal and heritage history of Djibouti: narratives, archives, iconography and testimonies, where memory meets digital technology.
